Carrying Handle

Hi all. 

Is it possible (or advisable) to add a carrying handle to an 8” dob tube? It’s a [removed word] to cart about! Has anyone tried this? Any tips???

I usually fit a carry hande to a dob. WDS Ltd ia good source of handles. I also fit a small handle near the focuser to make it easier to move the scope.

I didn't want to drill holes so I made this double strap handle. Straps close on with Velcro - no buckles that may scratch the tube surface.

Be aware that Velcro looses its grip after a lot of use.  Should be fine if you keep the handle on though.  Not a criticism, just a friendly warning.

As above velcro does have a limited lifespan if frequently unfastened but should be OK if left in place permanently.

Personally I prefer a couple of tube rings with a handle fitted.

Me too....   You can't beat the piece of mind of metal fixings !  🤓

The thought of an OTA suddenly dropping like a torpedo being launched is frightening, however unlikely.......

The handle on my 200P is similar to John's.

It makes lifting it off and onto the base much less like cuddling a slippery bomb.

Looks like a D Pull handle from Screwfix or some other DIY place. Good solid handles though. 👍🏻

Handles should come as standard with all scopes I think.
