After giving a little thought to acquiring a largish reflector for those Moonless nights where galaxies seem to dominate the scene, my friend Peter who runs the Astronomy Centre a few miles from me, kindly offered me the extended loan of a 250mm F6 Dob to play with. Thanks Peter! :icon_biggrin:

Cant wait to play among the galaxies when the clouds allow it! :icon_cyclops_ani:

Not sure it will beat my 100mm Tak though! :icon_scratch:

Don't be surprised if you are surprised Mike, large Dobbos have a way with them. Might not put your Tak to shame, but there will be a WoW ot two uttered for sure 😁.

Whoops, just noticed the age of your post, so replys are a bit spurious now Mike. I should have got a us from Alan's post really.

It does show some nice views Doug, but ive only used it a few times since it arrived. I find the OO dob mount an awful contraption though, so it puts me off using it. I've probably used it around five or six times so far.

Hmmmm, I had not considered that option Jeremy.
Quite likely hacked and they Photoshopped Mike in to someones picture with a Dob

If someone would Photoshop a nice German EQ and rotating tube rings on the image, I think I'd be happier.😊

That would look impressive, and be stunning on the Moon & planets. You've talked me into it Alan. 😊

I'm secretly hoping that Peter Drew will permanently loan me his 8.5" refractor, but I may be hoping against hope!

When it comes to faint DSO under truly dark Sky's , I think you will be shocked and most impressed by what all that extra aperture does for you mike. You will have some woow moments😱

Maybe we will see the Tak for sale in SGL classified ads soon, or you could mount it on the Dob and use it as a rather handy finder 😀
