Elephants Trunk Wide Field (Ha) ( update Missed Target)

Inspired by others attempts at this I had a go last night to capture The Elephants Trunk Nebula wide field in Ha.  This is 13 x 300 sec + 5 x 500sec exposures  about 5900 secs of total  integration time.

My power tank ran out so couldn't get more .  Will be out again tonight weather permitting.

Isn't that it quite small in the middle ?

 

I have to say I thought it was small, could be very embarrassing.?

You are right I missed.  I plate solved to get on the target then I moved it slightly down to get better framing.  Seems I moved it too far. Wasted 3 hours !!

The moral is trust plate solve..

Here is where  I was pointing.  Very interesting piece of space honest.

Thanks for stopping me doing any more.

Your suggestion about making it into mosaic is interesting.

I plate solved to that star at the end of the finger when I tried HD 206081, not the bright one which is the centre of the nebula as the framing seemed more logical from there...

TBH, the bit that you photographed looks interesting.  I would carry on with the image.  It looks very dramatic to my eye.

 

I think that you have the makings of a fine image.

OK happy tonight.  Very embarrassing getting the first one wrong.

Finally got the right target.

This is 10 x 500s Ha captures stacked and quickly processed in PI.

In the middle of the OIII captures now.
