Milky Way/lawnchair

A quick note, the Milky Way and sky has revealed itself again unfolding itself over the lawn chair on my deck. The stars are shining between the pines right now allowing Vega to blast through the needles.. temps  down to 6c tonight and with it a very clear sky.

Back to the lawnchair and the rugged structure of the Cygnus rift.

Hoping for a dark sky trip this Friday though so might see the Milky Way for the first time in forever!

Guessing you’re not balancing the 8” on your lap on the lawn chair... what are you scanning the rift with?

i was on holiday by the seaside last week and didn’t expect any observing, but managed to just spot the milky way and rift by lying on the beach so that it shielded me from the streetlights... brought the wrong bins too (8x30), nice view till the moon made it all fade away.

The Milky Way was lovely at the weekend when I was in the mountains of Tenerife. I’ve learnt recently that naked eye visual observing is great fun.

Hmmm... maybe you need some low power w...I...d...e field of view binoculars for these situations.....?

Nice one Gerry and I would settle for that to. Hoping to get out under the presence of a Milky Way sky this Saturday or failing that next weekend, just need to shake off a lingering cough n' cold before hand.
