Oooh...LEAD Weights! (SkyTee Mod?) :D

SkyTee2 owners rapidly become aware that CLEARANCES are fairly
minimal re. the (otherwise doubtless brilliant) design of the mount! ;)

There doesn't seem to be a supply (unless you know otherwise?!?!)
of additional M16 thread BARS to fit the "other side" of the mount! :o

So I bought a 100mm M16 threaded rod plus nuts, bolts, washers...

The IDEA is to make some *compact* weights to CLEAR the mount
during full rotation! I bought some SCUBA(!) Lead (shot) weights! :p

LEAD is a lot denser most things... I'm disregarding "Health & Safety"! lol

I imagine using a "tin" for the SHOT? Drill holes at either end! Using some
sort of "potting compound"(?) to render the LEAD "inert" (maybe)? :)

I suppose I'll have to take up SCUBA DIVING if it doesn't work! :D

If you have a local dive club you might find someone that makes their own weights from lead. You could inquire whether they could make a disk up for you by melting your lead shot and pouring it into a mould.

One weight pouch does not a diver make! :)

you can easily melt lead on a simple gas camp burner or on the kitchen stove if the better half is not around :)

Remember doing this in the back garden when I was about 12, melting down my dad's diving weights to make fishing weights. A blow torch will do the job easily.

I also remember tipping a ladle of the stuff over my foot but that's another story. Ruined a perfectly good shoe - and came perilously close to ruining a perfectly good pair of trousers too!

Heheh. I had thought of a little amateur Lead Smelting. My ancestors were
Lead Miners and (the women and children) "Lead Washers"! :p
And it didn't do them NO HARM (Guv')? etc. etc. :D

You can get a " proper " lead melting pot as used by plumbers, I've got one buried in the garage somewhere, I think they got banned on elf and safety grounds eventually

I spent many a happy hour in my yoof sweating bits of copper pipe on to bits of lead pipe, making a pretty wiped joint with me moleskin, now they've got pansy leadlocs to do the job.

Breathed lots of fumes, probably why I'm having trouble now figuring out complex astro, imaging programs :icon_scratch:
