Constellation of the month , January: Pisces.

Pisces is out of the path of the Milky Way , poor for deep sky and often over looked. A lovely early evening target it sits high in the south. Comfy enough to take a seat at the scope and enjoy a mass of binary stars. Sissy Haas gives some detailed 27 , 6 of which appear in the top 200 most beautiful stars. Nothing very challenging here , picked most up with the 102 on previous evenings.

35 Piscium, yellow and blue at 11.4" (SAO 109087)
38 Piscium, this is a multiple with a tight A and a dim third companion. Plenty colour in the AB.
51 Piscium, blue white and blue companion (SAO 109262) (quoted as "greenish")
55 Piscium, Orange and blue, plenty colour here (SAO 74182)
65 Piscium , Orange pair.
77 Piscium , Orange and white pair (SAO 109666)
psi1(ψ1 ) Piscium, lovely wide yellow pair.(SAO 74482)
ζ (Zeta) Piscium, lovely wide pair (SAO 109739)
Σ155 Piscium , 4.9" split picked up in the 102 at x40. Also picked out the delicate companion to 42 Piscium.
There are plenty more targets here , enough for a very pleasant and comfortable evening . Have a try at M74 , if you're missing a poor fuzzy thing !viewing , under clear skies,

Nice report Nick. Nice sketches. Well done!  I was out last night for a few hours observing doubles in Aries  too, but observed a couple more doubles that I missed in Pisces at the beginning of the year; Alrischa (Alpha Piscium) and Struve 138 (HD9817), both of which where not easily split due to poor seeing at high magnification, but could be seen just when seeing steadied in my C8 with my 10mm D low EP. Didn’t do any sketches last night, but will do more the next time I do some more double star observations.  The forcast tonight seems promising, so fingers crossed.

Nice reminder Nick. You even dropped a galaxy in there to tempt us fuzzy lovers. There might be a short window here this evening. Certainly not worth hauling out the biggish dob. But, a doubles raid might be fun.

Hmmm..... Might just get some T shirts made up. With ‘I’m a FUZZY LOVER’ emblazoned across the front. Possibly including an image of a galaxy so that people don’t get the wrong idea.
