The Meade 7" maksutov-cassegrains were not a huge success although they can be good with some careful tuning.

They are good scopes for viewing the moon and planets but your 10" dob will do much better on deep sky objects. I don't think the 7" mak would "blow away" the 10" dob on the moon and planets either.

Quite specialised scopes, the 7" Meade maks. If anything goes wrong then getting it fixed could be a real headache. I have seen them for sale for around £700 so the £1100 price tag seems too high to me.

If you want a mak of this aperture then the tried and tested Skywatcher 180mm comes to mind.

My post refers to the two makes / models referred to by the original poster, for the avoidance of confusion :icon_biggrin:

I agree but the question I answered left it a bit more open, couldn't resist..

Fair enough but the Meade had one or two "issues" that need addressing if they are to perform to their potential. One of these is the long, long cool down time (longer than other similar aperture mak-cassegrains) due to the large chunk of metal that Meade installed adjacent to the primary mirror in the interests of balancing the scope.
