The Moon 01-04-17

I'm working all weekend but when I left late this evening the sky was looking stunning. Even in the horrendous wash of light pollution outside the office I could see Aldebaran just below the moon at 8pm while there was still a little daylight remaining and I've never seen a single star outside the office before, it's that bad.

So home in double quick time and the scope was out cooling within 5 minutes.

100 frames later and we have ourselves an image, I stayed out observing for a little while afterwards, but not too late as I'm working again tomorrow and I wanted to process the data.

Best 60% of 100 frames at 1/200s, ISO 100 with 1.5x barlow, cropped and aligned in Pipp, Stacked in AS!2 and a little Lucy Richardson then into photoshop for tarting up :) I think I could squeeze a little more detail out of it but I'm leaving it be for now.

Worth a look at full size I think, I'm not sure it'll make too much difference but I've uploaded a full size PNG for the quality but it's 50mb so if you're bandwidth isn't too good skip to the full size JPG.

Very Nice images . Hope I get to observe the moon + other stuff sunday night.

Great that you have an 'incredibly understanding wife', I would classify my wife as tolerant at best ...

Very good john, the Moon is a lovely object to image, its hard to do when first learning, but gets a lot easier with time, i need to think about getting the old spc900 out again
