UHTC?

I have a buyer for my scope who's asking if it has Ultra High Transmission Coating, but darned if I know! I'm not that knowledgeable about scopes. I know it's a nice scope and that's it. It's a Meade LXD55 8" and I saw here that it does have such a coating:

UHTC Coatings: Ultra High Transmission Coatings, Special Coatings, Telescopes, Optical Coatings, Optics, Illumination, Coatings, Astrophotography, Optics And Light, Meade, Mead, Meade ETX, Visual Imagery

Can anyone tell me if this is the case?

Alex, there would have been a white label on the OTA showing it is UHTC.... this may have come off at some point if you cant see one. Other than that it would be difficult to say. See the link below on page 2.

I think they usually have -Ultra High Contrast - marked on the retaining ring.

If you look at an angle the glass will reflect a light purple color. Back in the day those little stickers would always wind up missing on the ETX's and the purple sheen was a viable way to confirm uhtc...

Bruce is quite right. If it's a UHTC, it will spell this out on the outer-ring (retainer) holding the corrector-plate in the front of the scope. I believe this first came out in 2003 from Meade, the same year as the LXD55-series of scopes & mounts.

Apparently the UHC term refers to the baffle design and not

the coatings.

 

It definitely has a purple sheen.

The guy said that Telescope House said the scope has "EMC" coatings not the newer "UHTC " coatings. The UHC sign on the front refers to the baffling, not the coatings. Ah well.

Umm not Heard of that before looking at your pics I def say you have UHC coatings by colour and retaining ring .
