Is it possible to run an NEQ6 with just the DEC axis running with the RA stationary?  It's for timelapse photography but not for astro.  I would have the latitude set to zero and just have the DEC rotating along the horizon.

Just use RA instead? From SynScan handset I dont think its doable. Maybe with PC, EQMOD perhaps?

This is the setup I was thinking.  Lock the RA axis so it doesn't rotate and just let the DEC rotate so in effect you get a 360 panorama

Perhaps you could release the RA clutch to enable free movement? The counter-weights would keep your proposed orientation steady...

Sidereal tracking rotates only around the RA axis

 

Edit: not sure what you want to achieve. The mount doesn't rotate around DEC axis when it's tracking.

So I have just found out   I feel another Arduino project knocking at the door to run the DEC axis only

Really no need for that - just use EQMOD and set it custom tracking with the RA rate to 0 and the DEC rate set to whatever you need (in arcsec/sec).

Would you not be able to just remove the RA cog temporarily then replace it when your finished?
