One-on-one Collimating help wanted!

Recommended Posts

Anyone in or near the Blackpool area who has good knowledge of collimating a newtonian scope?

I've tried following online and other written / video resources but I really want to learn first hand from someone in the know.

If you're willing to meet and show me how, I would be most grateful. Please PM to discuss

Thanks (and mods feel free to move this thread to appropriate place)

This is one of the best guides I've seen. And it's by a member here:

I'm sure a local astronomy club will be a valuable asset for a great many things beyond your learning collimation. In short order, you'll be the person who helps others master collimation.

The secondary has the least impact on views and is the most fiddly. If it looks approximately round and approximately in the middle of the drawtube when you just look down it then you won't be far off. Most people really worry about the secondary unnecessarily.

Are you at SGLX?

I don't know about your scope but with my SW 150 PDS I can not get the secondary reflection centred in the focusing tube as if the stalk is too long. I have left it for now but I had this crazy idea of machining 5 mm of the stalk and see what happens. I have a slightly better experience of my Quattro 8s.

A.G
