Powering GOTO in the field.

Hey guys,

What is recommended as a portable power device to power an heq5 mount? Ideally if I can pick one up from a shop like homebase/b&q rather than ordering online that would be great.

Also how much should I spend?

You'll get a huge range of replies on this but if you're after 'quick ready made pick up from the shop ' then a Maplin or Halfords jump starter is often in offer for about £40

I would go for a leisure battery - especially if you might end up needing dew heaters, camera power etc.

Long term then leisure battery. Short term, just to get started, Maplins jump starter. Often on sale for under £30. I bought one 3 years ago and have used it with an Heq5pro mount regularly with no issues. As others say, if you're going to add other gear you'll need a leisure battery.

Does anyone have experience with the Li-ion batteries offered by FLO? They are quite expensive, but seem extremely portable and bricking them might be harder than with the Pb batteries,

I brought a very good power tank from Maplins for around £30 with two 12 volt outputs worked very well on my HEQ5pro .

I've now got two of these. They're really good and have never run out of charge. The only little issue is that the lower of the two cig lighter sockets can be a little small for some of the cig lighter plugs. It depends on the plug.
