Utility belt

anyone out there use a utility belt whilst observing and can recommend one or something similar?

I was thinking of getting one of these or similar to hold eyepieces, eye patch, torch etc.. as I'm always putting things down and then can't find them again !

That really isn't a bad idea at all; the eyepieces can be popped back in to heat up in the attempt to remove dew.

When remote observing, I keep my eyepieces in a box in the car; but this belt would prevent loss of kit as well as the convenience of it!

Could be handy, but I do not fancy carrying my larger EPs in a belt like that (the 31T5 Panzerfaust is not just heavy, it is bulky)

Yep, that was my main worry, that the little pockets aren't big enough or sturdy enough to hold the eyepieces. Mind you it would still be handy to keep eyepiece caps, eye patch, torch and filter box in.

My cold night outer coat is an ex cold war fleece lined military affair with many pockets (bought from a surplus store). Simply a matter of habituating with which object goes in which pocket.

The problem with such a belt is that it probably is not designed to go around the outside of a 'Yetti' wearing fingerless mitts.

I also have a Correspondent type sleeveless affair for Summer use. (same pocket designations).

Army surplus jacket sounds a really good idea. I will check some out...

Just seen some fishing vests on eBay that look just the ticket - lots of pockets and could be slipped on over winter coat or worn by itself in the' hot' English summer!

There is an actual eyepiece belt by Orion, but more expensive.

Considering that it has better padding and all, I would consider paying the difference and get the Orion.

Looks a good piece of kit but might be a bit bulky and get in the way?

Looks a bit bulky indeed but it's because of the padding inside. Caveat: haven't used one personally.
