planisphere

evening all, I know its a bit old school but I had one many moons ago and I found it easier than any other method of star spotting. i have been looking at getting one but from what i can tell they are made of cardboard which would not last long on cold damp nights. does anyone know of a more robust version that's available?

Nowt wrong with old school  suits me fine.

The Philips planispheres in my local WH Smiths and Waterstones are plastic last time I looked.

The Philips is pretty good, I use one...never runs out of battery ;-)

Get the Philips one as it is plastic. They also do some "starter kits" with the planisphere, a couple of books and a big start chart.

I got my first Phillips when i was about 7 yrs old and i still have a Phillips today (glow in the dark). I have it pinned to my wall as a reminder of how i started out in astronomy.
