Popped up to the hill behind my place and took a few snaps with my canon with a 300mm lens on it.

The star field is the bottom star of the Southern cross and the jewel box - a nice little open cluster - 5 seconds - truly excited by the result!

Doesn't the Moon look odd upside down?

Love the colours in that second image though.

Is that Mars in the top left of the fourth one?  It looks roughly the right distance from the Moon, but I've no idea where the two should be in relation to each other given your location.

yes Mars - in the third shot .

Jewel Box is JUST visible naked eye on a really nice night - it wasn't visible until I took the piccie. (hence the air punching when I got it!)
