Probably the most unscientific image possible

Hi guys,

I had my first chance to take a look through my new telescope tonight, and managed to view Jupiter and see it's four moons really clearly.

I decided to try and capture what I saw to show you guys, and so I simply stuck my compact camera to the eyepiece and snapped a shot.  To my surprise, I actually managed to capture two of its moons along with the planet.

So anyway, here is the shot:

Thanks for looking

Thanks for the replies guys

That's a sweet shot, it's come out very nicely. What scope did you use?

It was a Skywatcher 250px Classic Dob.  It was the first time I had tried it, and I was using the kit eyepiece which came with the scope.  I was quite surprised to get any sort of picture at all really, especially one containing any detail.

Thanks

How is this unscientific? Great shot though. I always use my compact camera or phone(stabilised by a rubber band) to take pictures or film through my telescope. No use buying expensive equipment when cheap thinking can do it just as well.

I was using the term "unscientific" in the sense that no specialist equipment (other than the telescope) was used in the capture of the image.  Perhaps the title should have read "Probably the most unscientifically captured image possible"?
