More work on M42, TEC140.

I wasn't too happy with the first of the all-TEC M42s I posted. The L layer was rather flat and the blues were a bit funny. I shot a full winter night's worth of extra data last night and I think it's getting there, slowly. Stéphane did rather kick this out of sight with his Atacama image recently! We do what we can.

Exposure lengths were 10, secs, 40 secs, 5 mins and 15 mins. Methods were... strictly private between consenting adults!!   Not entirely by the book.

Big thanks to Yves for the use of his Mesu for a while, to carry the TEC.

Don't let the Atacama images overshadow this. They are almost a special case. This is a fantastic image.

Nice, only criticism I have is it's slightly flat colour/contrast-wise in the core but then you can take a beautiful image only for the 12bbp colour depth LCD screen to mash it up! It's got a good depth appearing in the outer dust..

What a way to end the year! I like the colours very much. Not too sharp, not too contrasty, not too saturated.

Looking around the big image the detail is superb, the fine filaments across the Running Man, and between the Man and De Mairan's Nebula are seriously good.

The fine blues sitting on the pinks in M42 look almost 3D, very nice!

Not many astrophotographers could show a large detailed image and get away with it, if you get my drift. :icon_salut:

It's a beauty Olly, and personally I prefer the colours and saturations you have chosen, looks more natural and deep-spacey if that makes sense
