can anyone remember what Hale Bopp looked like through a telescope?

just wondered if u saw much detail through a decent scope or is it just a larger version of what

u see with the unaided eye?

btw i am talking about visual observation not photographic.

It showed structures resembling bow-waves, as shown in my image below

To me it looked like a pearl lightbulb with a small nucleus similar to the element, Several "bow waves" were also evident. It was a great and prolonged sight with the naked eye, binoculars or telescope.

Absolutely. Best comet in my lifetime (so far, "I ATEN'T DEAD", to quote Granny Weatherwax)

I remember seeing it through my spotting scope as my Sears refractor was buried in deep storage. 

It was the best Comet I have seen in my lifetime too. I seem to recall there was a cult in which the members

committed suicide believing they were going to ride along with the Comet to nirvana; they even wore

new tennis shoes for the trip. 

Edit: Don't know if they made it, did anyone get a card ?

Hale Bopp was/is only comet I've seen thru a big (20") scope.  Yes, the 'bow waves' were memorable; I also recall ( perhaps wrongly) that over the period of the evening we saw the nucleus turn.

Can I remember what Hale-Bopp looked like through a scope? Nope- that's why I take astrophotos!!!

As I recall it's been a long time a telescope would not have given the best view, was through binoculars or naked eye it was that bright
