D.I.Y star chairs, show them!

I am thinking of building a star chair now I have the bino bug, I was wondering has anyone made one and if so, share some pics, I have seen the ones made with an overhead frame and you sit pretty low to the ground, but I was thinking of something more ambitious, i.e fitting a seat or rally car seat in between a dobsonion mount, obviously really strong with a similar bracket over the back to attach binos, powered versions is an option but I basically want to swivel left and right on a bearing base with something to secure my position when I am facing direction I want, then finding some way of making a tilt mechanism so I can lie back flat without my legs flailing all over and losing blood supply to my limbs, I have looked at cheap and high end video game simulators etc even the old after burner tilt and pitch arcade game with joystick control, I know its ambitious but I want it simple, to look nice and have minimum moving parts to keep vibration and creep down to a minimum! any ideas welcome!

Here's some that may be of interest for plundering ideas:

I've also been toying with the idea of making a sort of angle-poise arrangement that fits to a reclining chair for my 15x70. As always, I come back to the portability-sacrifice issue.

And, just in case you haven't already drooled over it, there's this non-DIY offering:

I absolutely love "Gary's Motorized Big Bino Chair " and it might not be too difficult for a half-way experienced do-it-yourselfer. Even the beer can remains upright during tilting - perfect! That should give Dezzie something to get his teeth into!

Kind regards

Roger

I like the simplicity of gary's chair and I can see potential areas for improvement, I thought about the drill idea, another option is a flexible attachment from the drill to the gear on the floor, this allows a more handy position to grab the drill and some flex allowed for using it tilted in other positions!

BRILLIANT !!!

This thread is the funniest thing I've seen in a long time ( http://ghonis2.ho8.c...binochair1.html )

+1 for Gary's BBC. Pure Brilliance and Pure Bonkers in equal measure. I particularly enjoyed Chapter 8 entitled "Version II - with Speed Reducer". It contains the quote "After searching for gear reducers, I decided to use the gear reduction afforded by an electric ice cream maker we were no longer using."  I would just love to have seen the event that led up to Gary realising he needed to make a slower version!!!  Gary - you're a mad genius.

Where's me drill....

Totally agree.  My favourite:

"Peltier Beverage Cooler and Warmer"

Heath-Robinson genius!  Might have to make one just because it looks like so much fun...
