That's a good capture, it looks bright compared to the galaxy core but what perplexes me is how the **** did Herschel see 2554 in 1785?? :confused: I wonder what telescope (visually) would be required today from where ever Herschel saw it?

Just did some checking... he had 19" and 48" reflectors! :cool:

I don't believe they would have been anywhere near the standard of modern reflectors though. Herschel was still using speculum metal for mirrors, wasn't he?
