Well done, I will have a look tonight, I saw Venus the other night, about 5 nights ago low down. I have some large walnut trees over that part of the land that block the view a good deal, where's the chainsaw!

Thanks chaps, it is amazing just to look at something and think wow that's that lump of stuff in space that actually IS the images I've seen in the books!

I have just checked where Mercury is and I didn't see Venus at all the other night, it must have been either Mars or Mercury. I didn't really thing Mercury got that bight, of that high in the sky, it was a planet for sure maybe it was Mars. I will have to check tonight it the weather holds.

Mercury is very bright this apparition,

I have some buildings in the way so went upstairs with my little 8cm.

I was pretty stunned that I could see it, not only with the naked eye but through the window glass.

Failed to see Mars below it though, too much light and haze low down.

Watched Europa dance around Jupiter later on

Yes, Mercury was really clear last night, easily mistaken for one of the brighter planets. Mars was just visible above the horizon twilight here in mid France so was useful as a double check.

First clear night for ages.
