17P/Holmes with 300mm Canon Lens

Here ya go guys, just bobbed outside for a quick snap at the comet, funny looking little devil isn't it, 2 second exposure at f5.6 Canon 1D mk II with the 300mm f4'L' and a 1.4x converter.

Good one, Alan. I must admit, your image is identical to what I see in my 10x50 binoculars.

I will try at prime focus on my 500mm WO Megrez, if the weather ever improves up here.

I doubt it. It's moving away from us/the sun, so whatever tail it has will be getting shorter. I thought the tail is behind it, which is why it appears round. If I'm wrong, please put me right,.

Thats a nice widefield shot mate, Pete in another thread has found a very slight tail (and I mean slight).

My understanding is that although the comet is moving away from us, there is a possibility that the tail will develop as the viewing angle increases (but only to a point) - but it is kind of reliant on the comet still being bright enough to see...
