Mirror wave

Recommended Posts

I guess its all down to the individual and what objects they want to view but personally a 1/10 Pv mirror would be wasted on the objects I use my 16" on.

If and when I upgrade to an f/4 it will only be 1/4 or maybe 1/6Pv with a high lux coating mirror, oh and it will HAVE to have a full Zygo report so I know exactly what I'm getting!

I was just going to argue that there's not much difference in price between standard grade 1/4 PV and ultra grade 1/10 PV but got a shock when looking at OOUK's site. the difference with VAT is £666! Gulp.

it's nice to get the best quality mirror that you can afford tho Ron?

By all means.

I'm not criticising the folks who do buy the Higher quality mirrors.

When the conditions are favourable enough to exploit their extremely accurate figure, then

they may feel justified in spending the extra money.

Huge difference and even more shocking when you consider what they can be bought for pre-loved!

Case in question, Johns 12" f5.3!

Yes I was very lucky to spot that one. The OTA would cost over £1,300 at todays prices

I was thinking about this whilst walking the dog earlier.....

£666 is alot of money but if you are seriously going for a large custom dob then the chances are that it wont be something you'll want to upgrade for a good few years, so considering the cost of living these days and the little annoying things we have to pay out for like broken washing machines etc etc then is it really wrong to treat yourself to the best mirror possible??

So I've just done a complete U turn on what I said earlier in this thread! So there you go estwing, go big and go good! :headbang:
