If i put a 2x barlow on the nose piece of my web cam then put it in my 2x barlow is the magnification therefore 4x ?

Remember that the powers are additional so 3x & 2x would give 5x not 6x.

Every thread I've read says the opposite, the light coming out of the first would be muliplied by the second ie multiplied...

well I am new to this but common sense would dictate that if a 2x barlow changes a 20mm to a 10 mm by magnification, then why does a 3x barlow not become a 6x when used together.

Hand up if I am missing something.

Sorry I dont think that comment is clear. I agree that a 2x and a 3x makes a 6x.

I would have to agree that a 2X and a 3X would make 6X overall, can't see any reason why it would only make 5X.

stacking a 2x and 3x barlow should yield 6x, but the value can vary depending on the EP used (the exact position of the image plane in the EP varies, which means the position of focus varies, and therefore the exact magnification varies).

Stacking is multiplicative but a different effect occurs if you lengthen a Barlow (e.g. with an extension tube). Doubling the length of a x2 Barlow will make it a x3. Double the length of a x3 and it becomes a x5.
