Hi all,just a quick question ,im thinking of upgrading my scope to a 10"dob, but for now what i,ve got is a skywatcher 130,i like this scope but it suffers a lot when the wind is blowing,is there any way i can make it a bit sturdier its an EQ3 looks like its going to be clear tonight but windy and it just isnt any fun when i cant keep the scope still, many thanks and clear sky,s everyone.

I've read on here a suggestion of filling the legs with sand, haven't tried it myself.

Ive filled my mounts leg with sand (get fine sand) makes a big difference and i put 1kg weight in middle this has made it very stable.

Hanging a weight (2litre milk bottle filled with water) from the centre of the tripod may help somewhat.

I only extend the legs 3/4 of the max and put a bag of sand on the tray. Seems pretty sturdy that way.

I did the exact thing, upgraded from the 130 to a 10inch Dob, you won't regret it although I'm keeping the small one as a solar scope

I have used a good sized builders bucket of water in the past hanging from the tripod head.

I put the lead acid battery that I use tp power the mount on the eyepiece shelf which gives a fair bit of stability, anything to add to the mass I suppose

Good idea - you have inspired me to hang my power tank from the eyepiece shelf.

Get play sand its finer and keep tapping the legs as you put it in so it compacts better.
