My new Takahashi Sky90

My new Takahashi Sky90 arrived last week along with the Takahashi ExtenderQ 1.6x , and what a lovely piece of work they both are , typical takahashi build and quality , nice .

First ligth was thursday morning at 3.30am , it was really clear and steady and Jupiter was my 1st target , using a Vixen Lanthium 20mm eyepiece @ 25x , super sharp .

I then cranked up the power using 1st a 9mm Lanthium , 6mm , 4mm slowely working up the powers untill my 2.5mm @200x , still super sharp with lots of detail seen in the cloud bands ( no GRS ) along with a shadow transit that stood out like a bullet hole on the face of Jupiter , cool , and the 4 moons were tiny discs of differant sizes and hues , easy to see the differances in them all , sweet .

Last night on the 6 day old moon the views were just as shap , with lots of detail easily seen @200x .

I fitted the 1.6x ExtenderQ ( a bit of fiddling around with the Tak . adaptors ) and at 360x the image was a little dimmer but still really sharp , impressive as its only 90mm in diameter and 500mm in f/l , nice bit of glass .

The build as said is typical Tak , and I am amaized the R&P focuser is so nice to use , every thing is just so well made , beautiful .

She sits on my Vixen SP mount and they are a good pair , work well together.

I am more than happy with her and she now keeps my Takahashi FS60C company . I am now a confermed Tak junky ...

Here is a few photos , hope you all enjoy .

Brian .

Hi Brian,

Funnily enough, I have been looking at the IEQ5 as an upgrade to the HEQ5 Pro for guided AP! How are you getting on with the mount? I was also looking at the Avalon Fast Linear Reverse mount (not the Uno as I can see issues with the camera/filter-wheel hitting the frame). At half the price of the Avalon the IEQ45 seems a better option. Also considered the NEQ6 but, not needing the weight carrying capacity, the IEQ45 again looks a better option.

I think Olly Penrice did a review of the IEQ5 - I would love to know his private thoughts on the mount!

Regards,

Pete

The new ones do, I believe, and the old ones only need a simple adapter from Shoestring or Pierro Astro...

Olly

Thanks Olly, I will look into it. USB ports are at a premium on my laptop what with one being used for the main camera, one for the guide camera and one for the filter-wheel. Not really looked at the Tak mounts but can imagine they are quality. Not sure if they need PC resources for Goto? I would rather a mount not need any PC resources (less cables to trip over as well  ).

Enough here though - not trying to hi-jack the thread!

Pete - if this is a problem - why not use one USB port for the main camera and then buy a powered USB hub for everything else? - It works fine for me.

TheThing

Ha ha ha , The Thing , took me a while to see what " Flappers " are ????

Here in OZ they are " Thongs " and in my home country NZ they re called " Jandels " .. Ha ha , put a smile on my dial . Thanks mate .

Just come in from a few hours of Moon gazing with the Sky90 , woaw ! the more I use this baby the more I apreciate how well she is made ,300x as the moon is at the zenith and its as good as I have ever seen it , just so easy to get world class views with this Tak , and the Vixen mount compliments her so well , what a team .

Beautiful .

Night all , as its Monday 9.30pm local time , work tomorrow , but I will be out again tomorrow night .

Help !!! I have been bitten buy the TAK BUG! , Since posting this thread I have sold off my 127mm triplet apo and TV Pronto and got my self one of these ... nice scope this Mewlon 210mm .

I had a late session friday night , got the collumation spot on and WOAW !!!! what a scope , even tho it was an almost full moon the views at 300x were perfect , she was just idling along as you could imagine with 2415mm of f/l to play with , my biggest eyepiece an Astrotech Titan 40mm gives 60x , as low as I can go ,, I like this baby , Enjoy.

Hi Olly , I got up this morning at 4.30am and went out for a look at Jupiter , and woaw! mate , just a small tweek on the collumination and the view at 100x in my 24mm TV Panoptic was so good , I was transfixed !! on moments of steady seeing the detail , colour was amaizing , My old club has a Celestron C14 and this was as good or better , and its only 210mm in diameter , man the Japaneese know how to polish glass , this scope is guarenteed 1/20th wave or better and I can see it easily , just so good , super sharp like my Sky90 and FS60C Frourite's , and this is a Cassigrain scope , whew!! .

One more thing the manual says this " Use the 50mm finder as a lifting Handle " its strong enough , but I am just comming to terms with that , mate you just dont do that on any normal scope ??

Super build .

Brian.

Thaks guys , I love my Takahashi's .

I had a few people around monday night to look at the 7 day old moon thru the M210 , and my god !! does this scope perform as a lunar scope , amazing as its views are so refractor like its scary .

Every one there was so impressed and could not beileve the quality , sharpness and clarity of the views , so much detail seen , really , really good . Not like most reflectors I have looked thru over the years especially at high powers 200x plus , where the Tak was hitting 400x and it was as sharp as 60x nice ( like looking thru a fine haze , sorry reflector owners , sad but true ) , more like my Tak Sky90 only much brighter with lots more detail seen , so very good its , as I said Scary .

Definatly a keeper .

One more thing thats a bit of a negative ,, columation has to be spot on to acheave these pefrect views and its a fiddly job to get right , but once it on ,,, well its ON !!! .You know straight away , and a star test takes about 10 miniutes to get columination spot on . Here is a photo taken with my HTC phone hand held up to my 40mm AT Titan at 60x to give you all an idea .

2nd photo is a view straight up past the M210's finder to show the slight high cloud that was persistant all night .

Hey Micheal , if you ever decide to go bigger on the mount scene , have a good look at the Ioptron IEQ45's , I cant praise mine enough , holds my M210 easily , is quiet , easy to use and learn , is fast set up times , just a really good mount .

But yea dont sell your Vixen , you will regret that .

Here is all 3 of my Tak's mounted and looking good , Love en all .

Tak man , Tak man , happy happy happy , Tak man !, thats me .
