Beautiful Cygnus.

Perhaps the nicest of constellations packed full of nebulae and easy to spot star clusters.

NGC7062 is the" belt of Venus";http://www.perezmedia.net/beltofvenus/archives/000726.html

There's plenty planetary nebulae, I try and stick to 12.5 magnitude;

NGC6884,7008,7026,7027,7048,6884,6894 and 6826, the blinking p.n.

Open clusters , galaxies and nebulous clouds are also abundant;

IC4996,5146,5067 &5070 ( Pelican nebula),NGC 6811 (open cluster), NGC6888 ( emission Crescent nebula), NGC6910 ( Open cluster -"rocking horse"), NGC6914 ( emission and reflection clouds to IC1318), NGC6997 (o/c), M29 and M39.

NGC6946 ( spiral galaxy in nearby Lyra) Open clusters NGC7128,6866,7127,6871,6811,7039,6834 (Vulpecula),6764,7031,7086,7062,7082 and 6791 (Lyra).

NGC7006 and NGC6934 are globular clusters.

Just for a mix;

NGC6997,7044,7063, 1369 ( galaxy in Fornax),6811,6819,6971 ( galaxy in Delphinus),7044,6883,6996,6834 ( in Vulpecula),6857 ( emission nebula) and

6905 ( the blue flash nebula).

This is a rich and challenging area, the GOTO comes in slightly handy.

Nick.

It is quite wonderful just to run a pair of binoculars up and down and across Cygnus. It's clusters really stand out against the Milky Way.

Since we've passed the longest day , things should start going uphill again.

Yep, you can't beat swanning around in Cygnus...(groan!)

I think from the more the Northerly latitudes it's about as good as it gets for rich, packed star fields.

Truly a beautiful area of the night sky.

And don't forget the spectacular double Alberio (the Swan's head) - a beautiful blue and gold close double that looks nice under any sky conditions except for the worst light pollution nights (it still can be seen but finding it is another matter :grin: ).
