Recomendations - 24mm-ish for viewing DSO's

Hi, I've been after a mid/low power EP for viewing DSO's. I favour the TV panoptic 24mm (expensive) or the Meade 5000 24mm SWA (vanished from the face of the Earth) but are there any comparable recomendadtions ??

All suggestions welcome!

With the current exchange rate there are huge savings to be had from buying from the USA. One of these would be an excellent choice at approx £130

Even with shipping it will undercut the UK price by a large margin...http://www.telescope...er_proofed.html

or

If you want to stick with 1.25" fitment for approx £78...

As an alternative thought in the 1.25" fitting, I had a Vixen LVW 22mm for a while and found it an excellent eyepiece - just as sharp as the 24mm Panopitc that followed it but it shows a little less sky.

You could also maybe look at this with 68* FOV

Ask them if they have it in stock first. I waited a long time for a different EP to be told its coming, its coming

Bart

Edit - just noticed they stated available august.

Try these guys, recently got the 16mm and 20mm 68* from them. Also notied they're cheaper than the others

I have no experience at all with explore scientific EP's. How do they compare with TV and Meade 5000 EP's?

PS... Yes am trying to keep my barrel size down to 1.25 inch so that I do not need to buy a new UHC filter.

Cheers

I believe JOC (Explore Sci) were the OEM for Meade 5000, so I'd guess pretty much identical to the 5000.

I just received my ES 68°/24mm a few days ago. It's a wonderful EP and a bargain here in the US at $120.

I'm sure at the current 'sale' prices ES is definitely cutting into Televue sales.

OPT do appear to have some good offers on eyepieces at the moment, including televue. I have had some involvement with them, best if you email first to confirm shipping cost, they may then send you a separate request order form as opposed to using the one on the website.

If your going to order from the states please remember to factor in duty + vat and any handling cost which can add 20% to your total

Plus the fact if there is a problem with the eyepiece it's possible you might have to return it to the states

For saving a few ££ it's something to think about
