Where are you meeting up and can I join in - I saw all the tickets were sold out :)

Did you try the phoone number?

We're all going over to South Park field about 630

and until my partner gets back from Exeter I will be taking a toddler too! Then handing him over about 7.

No, I didnt try the number, just saw tickets were sold out. I will turn up at South Park for 6.30 and see if I can meet a few of you there and get some general advice. I will have some cash so if I can buy a ticket there that would be great.

Hi Ainsley and welcome to the forum. Given that most of us are sufferers of the well known condition of 'aperture fever', an incurable condition where the patient constantly ponders the question, "...yes I know that this scope resolves m13 very well - but what if I had a scope that was just a little bigger". I have seen on many occasions at star parties where people have been escorted away from the event for salivating over other members large dobsonians - it isn't pretty and certain a real problem.:) So getting getting the largest scope Ainsley is certain going to put off the symptoms of this condition for at least half an hour!:):D

One consideration I would bear in mind is that although larger scopes may increase in aperture, their focal length (length of tube) may not. The resulting effect of this is that the eyepieces you use will need to be of better than average quality as they have more work to do in bringing such a wide light cone to focus in such a proportionately short length of space. The larger scopes are not so tolerant of the cheaper eyepieces, so you will need to take advice on the likely cost of the better ones too if you are to get the most out of your new scope.

Clear skies

James

People were just turning up on the door in the end, and we didnt go over to South Park because of the clouds. I hope you just came straight over to Science Oxford?

Hi Sanmatt, I wondered round the park but couldnt see any sign of any activity so gave up. I didnt know where Science Oxford was. Oh well, next time maybe.

Ah cripes thats a shame.

Getting Here - Science Oxford Live Right there, right by the park.

There is a free public event next Thursday and Friday run by Oxford Uni. I don't yet know much about it but you could have a chat with Themos, he knows. I'm hoping to go along on the Friday night, but I have a German exchange student coming to stay with us and I dont know what he is doing on that evening (I can't find the itinary form) but hopefully I will bring him over.

Thanks Sanmatt, I will see if I can make that and keep a lookout on the website you linked to. I didnt check out the map before, too busy looking busy at work to notice it was all on the website.

Cheers.
