First target for a newbie

Recommended Posts

Got to try out my new scope tonight and chose an obvious target, Jupiter, fantastic sight.

Getting used to the way the EQ works which is not as complex as i first thought.

Going outagain later when everyone has turned their lights out.

Only a celestron firstscope 90eq refractor. Quite impressed with the views so far.

I have the same scope. It is BRILLIANT for observing the planets because of its long focal length.

Just you wait til you see Saturn through it.

You have been warned.

Jupiter is also special..................

But Saturn..................your socks will be knocked off.

From one Newbie to another..

Jupiter.

Although I suppose it depends where in the world you are.

I went out at about 11pm about a week or so ago.

Pointed the scope at the brightest star I could see in the sky and was pleasantly surprised that it was Jupiter. ( When I finaly managed to line it up propperly )

Was recognisable as Jupiter and I saw a few 'dots' to either side of it which I assume were some of the satelites.

I've not even looked into how to find planets and other bodies in the sky yet.

I litteraly just 'point and look'.

Didn't look at much more than that to be honest as it was -4 degrees and I was freezing! LOL!

Next time I think I'll take a heater and a thermos to the bottom of the garden ( read walled court yard ) LOL!

Jason.
