5 metre USB cables OK?

For our CCD cameras 5metre USBs would make life easier. Anyone had any issues with them? I've always used 3 metre.

Olly, you'd probably need to use an active USB cable as I think 5m is about the limit of the passive cable - it may still work but as a bit more noise is getting introduced into the signal the performance may be reduced.

I've successfully used a couple of the Lindy active 5 mtr USB cables without any problems...

I have used a 5m extension I picked up for a couple of quid on ebay. No problems with the connection but as I have to focus manually I gave up and got a laptop so I could see what I was doing.

You could alway try out some USB over ethernet adapters. Amazon have some up for grabs at a very reasonable £13 (reasonable this is: if they actually work) delivered.

i second the use of active usb cables, never had any issues with them

I use Belkin 5m regular (not active) cables and have no problems with them.

I have had problems in the past with cheap unbranded 5m cables.

My camera works fine with a 3m cable but just won't work with any regular 5m cable I've tried. Now use a 10m active one and no problems at all, works perfectly.
