Thread on top of tube ring

Recommended Posts

This might be a stupid question but here goes anyway! On one of my tube rings there is a thread which is fixed with a thumbwheel. looks like the size for a camera to be mounted on? If so, do you turn the camera on a few threads then tighten the thumbwheel or am I missing something? Next when I assembled my scope I put this ring nearest the front of the scope, is this correct? I was thinking of putting another dovetail on top with a quick release, can this thread be removed?

Cheers

Steve

The idea of fixing a dovetail to the tube rings and then using a quick release attached to the new bar is excellent as it strengthens the whole mounting system as well as giving you a good platform for your camera to take widefield images.
