Heart and Soul and why an Astrotrac has holes

Another run on the Heart and Soul nebula's, taken last night in windy conditions I realised that's why Astrotracs have holes, to let the wind through .

Shooting on an 85mm lens as it's to windy for the 200mm and I'm using the hydrogen alpha filter to combat the moonlight and streetlights in the front garden.

Well the camera didn't get nicked or blow over so here is the result from last night, about 80 minutes worth through the HA filter in 6 minute subs and that's the double cluster top left.

Beautiful. As always, its fantastic to see objects like this in context with each other, especially these two with their complementary names.

I take it this was done with one of your Canons?

Thank you, yes this was taken with the modded Canon550D @1600 iso.

That's good. You're done well to get so much signal so quickly through a Bayer matrix. Impressive result.

Well, yes, but one pixel in four... Using a colour CCD camera I get a huge improvement in Ha when adding an Ha layer from a mono camera as well.

Lovely image - I know it sounds daft but I've imaged the Heart and the Soul seperately and never realised how close together they were - the advantages of a widefield shot!!!
