I agree with you about the pv values of Skywatcher, Stella Lyra etc. There’s no way my new 12” Stella Lyra is 1/2-1/4 pv. Me thinks he’s playing down the competition.

Well DPD delivered my Starfield 102 today. I ain’t selling this one. Mounted on a new EQ5 with enhanced motor drive kit and slow mo cables. I decided to not get the EQ5 go to this time as I have become quite proficient using the starsense unit which I intend to swap between my dobsonian and Starfield. If only these weeks of clouds would retreat 🤔

Great image and well deserved.

Buy one!. They are great scopes and great value. In fact I am getting my second one delivered today, as I foolishly sold my first one. The views are crisp with little to no CA visible.

Need help collimating a laser collimator
bosun21 replied to jinchuriki's topic in Getting Started General Help and Advice
Another factor is securing the laser in your focuser. A single screw will knock the laser off centre. For this reason I prefer the Hotech with it’s expansion rings which keep the laser centered. My HoTech came perfectly collimated and when used it’s in perfect agreement with my Cheshire and cap. -
In all honesty I wouldn’t take it back from you. A sale is a sale in my mind. I am also looking at a 6” Rumak Maksutov although a frac is miles ahead in the reckoning.

I’m pleased to hear that I’m not alone on this telescope adventure. I keep telling myself that this will be the last scope I’m selling, but unfortunately I have wandering eyes.

DPD dropped off a new EQ5 mount and an enhanced motor drive kit. I miss my frac so I will have to replace the Starfield 102 I sold. When will I ever learn 🤔

I can no longer drive due to health reasons so I got a friend and neighbor to drop me off at a dark site 2 hours away. I had arranged to be picked up in 4 hours time. As I watched his rear lights disappear in the distance I had the shock horror of realization that I had left my eyepiece case in my hallway with my mobile balanced on top. My most miserable 4 hours ever.

I use an electric focuser for visual. Even if the focus is well off, with the focuser set to fast it’s rapid in its movement of the draw tube. I like the look of this little electric focuser you have highlighted but my concern is if it’s robust enough.

A heated pet blanket is a relatively cheap and low power consumption method to keep moisture at bay.

Sanity check for beginner

Better with a concenter to align the secondary mirror as with a cap you have to rely on your eyes judgement. -

Not going to get wide field views with a 10” dobsonian. It all depends on how you define wide field. -

I would definitely drop the eyepiece kit. You would be much better to buy two or three relatively decent eyepieces and a barlow of similar quality. The eyepiece kits come with eyepieces that are too close together in focal length. You won’t get any benefit from this. The BST Starguider range are a good starting point. Good luck. -
I see your eyepieces have little foot rests. How nice.

Celestron Evo 6 WiFi question.
bosun21 replied to gary756's topic in Getting Started General Help and Advice
I used the Celestron WiFi adapter on my Celestron 8” Nexstar and it worked flawlessly. No dropouts etc and decent range.
