  1. Possibly the case, however the sky conditions play a significant role in this. On very good seeing and transparency the Obsession would pull ahead easily with its quality mirror kit not to mention the additional 2” of aperture.
  2. The PS align is better than the Skeye by being more accurate in target acquisition however I found the Starsense to be superior to them all.
  3. So true, but at a price. This particular clicklock was £115 so more expensive than the standard variety. I guess the accompanying M63 adapter accounts for the extra cost.
  4. DPD delivery this morning of a Baader M63 clicklock for my Starfield 102. I got tired of the standard Axil lock that came with the telescope as the clicklock makes things so much easier.
  5. Make sure they have the activation code and they haven’t been used up.
  6. I bought the LT70 more or less after the first positive reviews came out about the starsense unit. I fitted it initially onto my 8” dobsonian at the time and then now moved it to my 12”. It’s worked flawlessly each and every time apart from once where it just wouldn’t recognize the sky. No matter where I pointed it, it would fail. On removing my phone I discovered a large greasy fingerprint on the camera lens. After cleaning it was back to operating flawlessly. Great piece of kit and a massive timesaver. I just fitted a small black Perspex plate and a Synta finder shoe. Easy for most.
  7. They are the exact same scopes with a different paint job. Rumors tend to be just that. An Obsession with a quality mirror set would beat any production model easily.
  8. I wouldn’t go from my 12” to a 12.5” anyway. I would probably be looking at a 16-18” maximum.
  9. If I were to get a larger dobsonian than my 12” I think I would save for an Obsession. Expensive yes but the quality and ease of use is something else altogether.
  10. Yes I believe it has however they are still available with a few suppliers. I'll just go for the 7.5nm from FLO. Is it correct that the 10nm has to be dual stacked? I have read that the 7.5nm eliminates this requirement.
  11. Is there any noticeable difference between these two filters? Mainly for visual with the odd capture here and there. I am just about to place an order and just wanted to know whether the upgrade to the 7.5nm is worth it. Thanks.
  12. I actually have a separate phone for my Starsense unit which basically lives in the unit. The phone i will use for the captures is a Pixel 6 pro. I will read your attached article. Thanks for the link.
  13. It’s the go to motors that account for a good bit of the weight of the base. The boards are thicker to accommodate them. I used to own the 12” go to and the base was a pain to move manually so I sold it.
  14. How old is the scope? If you place a torch behind the mirror can see any light from it when you look down the scope? This is to check the coating on the primary mirror. It’s just with you saying it needed repainting etc.
  15. That’s why I went for the Berlebach Charon. It’s a substantial piece of wood and solidly holds its position.
  16. I have more or less abandoned night observing until the dark returns. I may pop out for a few doubles or open clusters though. It’s time to give my Starfield wedge a bit of use to satisfy my needs.
  17. I bought the same one as Michael from the same supplier for my 12” dobsonian. The supplier is called “Simply Bearings”. If you type in Lazy Susan bearing you get a variety of different sizes. Measure the base of your dobsonian and buy accordingly. HTH.
  18. That’s why I sold mine and bought Astronomik UHC & OIII filters. It’s like chalk and cheese.
  19. I’ll be definitely giving it a go in the near future. I have the Celestron Starsense unit already fitted so target acquisition is easy enough for me. I’ll put a bit more time in pointing the platform North and ensuring it’s level. I’m looking forward to it.
  20. DPD dropped off my new Stella Lyra 30mm UFF eyepiece today. I had been using one that a friend borrowed me and decided it was time to return it to him. I decided that I needed to own one of these great eyepieces of my own.
  21. Great captures Peter. You have given me the inspiration to try this with my 12” dobsonian and EQ platform. I was going to go directly to a dedicated Astro camera and laptop but I will probably try this method as I already have the required phone and holder etc. Thank you.
