  3. Finally the mount, made in Japan, for the made in Japan Baby-Mu is arrived. I was looking for a light, transportable, reliable, go-to equatorial mount with a good load capacity. My choice fell on the Vixen SXD2. Waiting for a review, I must say that I am very satisfied with this purchase. To climb it up in the house, I took advantage of a moment of absence of my wife. My job now is to convince her that it is the same old mount, the manual EQ5! Here the first photos of the setup. You see it at the moment on a provisional stand of EQ5 (leg diameter 1.75 "). The head of the mount has a 40 mm socket for the tripod at the base. The dealer (Skypoint), awaiting the arrival of a suitable tripod, has made a 3D printed adapter, to adapt it to the 60 mm hole of the EQ5 / GP / GPDX / etc tripod head. I thank my friend Armando Zurlo for the technical support. Soon opinions, reviews etc. It is my first electronic equaltorial mount GOTO .... It has no games of any kind with very fluid movements. Starbok Ten learning curve: Snapshot. It represents an easy, complete, pleasant user experience. The best electronic stuff that "does stuff" that I've got to try. For the unboxing (low resolution): https://youtu.be/3J6ln6Ju4AA
  4. For those interested. I created this unofficial facBook group, for sharing information between users of Vixen Sphinx mounts, in particular the SXD2 and Starbook Ten. https://www.facebook...87216612525986/

  6. Difficult choice: Quality with SXD2 or less cost with GEM45 or Capacity for future possible OTA upgrades so CEM70? At the moment i use a 120ED and a Mewlon 180c. I'm attracted by the SXD2, for its quality and because is beautifull. I really know that is here what I want. but the price and the somewhat dated project (cogwheels) hold me back. (3000 euros with Berlebach Astrostativ UNI 18 ) With 1000 euros less I could get a GEM45 which is pretty compact. While at the same price I could have a CEM70, which would allow me to use a 150 ED or diameters of 25/30 cm in visual in future What would you do? first of all I am concerned with quality and reliability. Which is the safest purchase and the best investment over time?

  9. It was the month I did Planetary Imaging for the first time in my life. It was the first time in my life with a Takahasci of my own. Luck would have it that the days from 18 to 24 were the days with the best seeing in recent months here in Matera. In my youtube channel I put the raw videos taken with the Mewlon 180c, ASI 224 without filters, and on an equalorial eq5 mount, manual without tracking. So video of very few frames: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMI1UD ... WTiXBVWsMg Here is a series of photos that I am gradually learning to rework with different softwares or with the same softwares in a different way: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set ... 393 & type = 3
  10. Hello. I know a visualist with a flashlight and I do planetary imaging and a minimum of DSO photos. I have a mewlon 180c and a 120ED. I ordered an AZEQ6 for AZ mode and its load capacity, capable of mounting a newton tomorrow up to 300mm (visual) and apo 150ED. But I have doubts about quality The frame that I like aesthetically and for quality is the SXD2 (if I could, but I can't, also the SXP2). Now ... the vixen worries me because it has gear wheels instead of belts like the azeq, but I am really attracted to this one because I see it with a better investment, in aesthetic quality, lightness etc, I ask you for advice on what to do. Do I give up the benefits of AZEQ6, accept the inconveniences of visual observations on EQuatoriale with the SXD2 but at the same time I ensure compactness and reliability? Or am I creating non-existent problems on AZeq6? what would you do?

  20. 22.03.2021 Baby-Mu, ASI224, @ f / 12 and with Barlow TV 2x, Astronomik ProPlanet 742 IR-pass filter Asistudio, PIPP, Astrosurface For two weeks here at the sub it was bad weather. These are the days I bought Baader BDS focuser, EAF motor, Anstronomik filter and other amenities. When I was no longer hoping for it, suddenly last night a glimpse of sky opens up in the clouds, clearing away for a few hours and giving me a nice but COLD evening in which to try the new toys on the Baby-Mu that I love more and more. As soon as I can, I write you a rece on the use of gadgets. In the meantime, I tried to shoot both with and without filter ... and I'll tell you about this too. Meanwhile, some photos of the beautiful unexpected evening:
  21. KONUS PERSEO after 35 years At the age of about 12, my mother and my uncles gave me my first REAL telescope. A great little giant who opened the windows to the Universe for me. Made in Japan, today I was able to partially restore it. Needs an intervention to the lenses that I have to collimate, since as a boy I disassembled it several times to clean it with ethyl alcohol Tonight, the sky suddenly opened up in the clouds, giving me an observation window with both the Baby-Mu and the little PERSEO. I observed the moon through an Adriano Lolli COMA adapter, which adapts the 1.25 "eyepieces to 0.96" of the original focuser of the "ancient" sacred relic. With a 25 mm Ploss Televue, despite a slight chromatism (surprisingly most of which deriving from a not perfect colimation) the little moon was greatly engraved. Beautiful. rich in detail. I also used an FF 12 mm eyepiece, which denoted a greater chromatism (but always very acceptable) and finally I dared with the supreme Abbe MC 6mm Takahashi, which still returned a usable image, with only a very slight graininess of the details and a coma on the peaks of the craters. I started crying reliving those nights over 35 years ago. A short walk among the stars, with very good focused stellar images, a short star test showing Airy discs (in extra) heavily etched in an image deformed by uncoupling. I'll take him to some expert soon for a comprehensive resuscitation. Then I wanted to dare, making the little old man savor the breeze of the modern era. Go of ASI224 with Astronomik ProPlanet 742 IR-pass filter and ASICAP. I shot some videos of which I quickly processed two, one for the ASi to rpimary little focus and the other through Barlow TeleVue 2x. Videos of a few frames (since we are still waiting for the frames from the east), processed with PIPP & Astrosurface. thanks Mom if you can hear me from up there 2021-03-22-1943_7-CapObj__100r_48T_326reg.tif 2021-03-22-1942_8-CapObj__100r_48T_262reg.tif 2021-03-22-1941_5-CapObj__100r_48T_675reg.tif 2021-03-22-1939_7-CapObj_pipp__100r_48T_366reg.tif
  22. The prices of Sw and Synta have generally risen and will experience large increases. This in the face of qualitative uncertainty that perhaps will increase in the coming months due to the covid? At this point it is better to focus on Vixen or other quality products
  23. Hi. I want to buy a SXD2 SNTen. I ask for your clarifications regarding a bit of confusion I have about the product: 1) Is SB ten completely controlled with both an RS232c cable and an Ethernet cable via the supplied Lan port? or Lan is usefull only for upgrade? 3) can I use RS232c and ethernet at the same time for control? 4) Do you know a long RS232C CABLE (the maximum possible length for the standard, that I know of 15m) that works well? 5) My idea is to work for now via ethernet from a PC in my house, leaving the telescope out. Subsequently I would like to integrate the SB Ten and therefore the SXD2 in an ASIAIR PRO network. Is this possible by having complete control of everything through ASIAIR? or do I have to have two networks and two controls? Thank you
