  1. This is your own personal blog. This is where you record your own thoughts, experiences etc. If you wish to ask questions or have something to share with the rest of the forum please use the main forum. The forum is sub-divided into sections such as beginners help and advice, imaging and general astronomy stuff.
  2. Click on "Forums" or the SGL logo at the top of the page, this will take to to the homepage. From there navigate to the the appropriate section and then add a new topic.
  3. Please ask your questions in the main forum rather than your own blog. That way you will get more answers to your question.

  6. It shouldn't be a problem if you have a Synscan handset flashed with the latest firmware and the correct handset / mount cable. Apparently the mount also has an equatorial tracking mode. Mount the base on a suitable tripod as described in the manual (printed page 9), press button 5 on the keypad and then power up the mount. http://www.skywatcher.com/downloads/MiniDOB.pdf
  7. The problem could be that you haven't got the exposure and/or focus set correctly. If you are getting some sort of image in the capture program (differing shades of grey) then there may not be a problem with the camera. Try using it during daylight to understand how the capture program works (less stressful than trying to do this at night).
  8. The built in lithium phosphate battery will give you 10 hours viewing time so I doubt you will need to change the battery mid session. Also the battery has a life span of about 10 years apparently so changing the battery will probably not be a problem for the original owner, the telescope will have been sold on long before then.
  9. I would advise not to try and repair this yourself. If the mount is still under warranty you should return it to where you bought it for repair / replacement.
  10. I've merged the two threads together. It seems that the ra housing has been badly machined or the ra bearing is out of alignment.
  11. The ability to post is removed when a member is banned. All their posts stay in threads so as not to disrupt the continuity of a thread and their user rank is changed to banned member / beyond the event horizon.
  12. According to FLO they might be available in the UK in September.
  13. I don't think it is a design fault as such, the rear cell of a newtonian is usually open so as to allow free movement of air to allow the mirror to cool. Something like a black plastic bag sounds like a good idea. The SW reflectors I've owned had a loose fitting plastic disc between the rear cell and tube.
  14. The OS shouldn't make any difference, I've done mine on win7 64bit. A good quality usb/serial adapter is essential though, cheaper ones don't always work. Also, look in the device manager to see which port the usb/serial adapter have been assigned. You can manually set this port in the Firmware Uploader or select auto detect to allow the uploader to find it.
  15. To put the handset into update mode hold down buttons 0 & 8 and then plug in the 12v power supply into the handset. Which mount do you have ?
