Since I'm very pleased with my Sirui N-3203X - very nice, good value - my first thought for John's case was something from that line. Since his total setup weight is currently 4kg, of which 2.5kg is tripod and head, the optical assembly is pretty close to weightless, so a tripod rated for 15kg should do pretty well. The N-2204X is rated as such, and my local vendor states its own weight as 1.3kg. However...further searching on the interwebs shows the weight a bit more according to Sirui: http://www.sirui.eu/en/products/tripods/nx-series/ ...1.48kg. Not sure what to think at this point. My own N-3203X is listed there as 1.82kg, but no longer available from my vendor so I can't compare. I can weigh it separately and more accurately when I get back home; perhaps the weights listed by Sirui include the case, etc.

Let me get back to you, must away.

Doing pretty well in the weight department, then. I'll take some exact weights when I get back home and see.

Is that just the tripod, or the panning head as well? A good carbon job can be had at around 1.3kg. Depends on the desired max height, number of leg sections (more is shorter collapsed length, but marginally less stable), etc. Your panning head looks pretty lightweight as it is; may not be easy to shed weight there. The Gitzo GH1720QR is a nice option at 460g, rated for 10kg.

I'll see what I can do here and let you know.

Don't have this figure in my head. I'm currently residing in a hotel, so I'll have to improvise. I think they have scales down in the fitness room - can I get back to you after breakfast? ? You can specify what you want weighed; the setup as pictured (with accessories), the bare OTA with one tube ring and mounting foot (the other tube ring is currently only used to hold the RDF) or anything in between.

Bjorn: Borg 71FL with accessories (DIY dewshield) on a Borg geared head atop a Sirui carbon tripod. Goes everywhere.

It should be interesting - I'm a pretty dedicated 24 Panoptic user. I already like the LVW's big eye lens.

Wow, this is nice. Never tried one before. Excellent packaging and complimentary Baader drawstring pouch from @disciplus55 Thanks, Sylvain!

Just a dump of what I've got in SkySafari so far, by constellation. At the very least, it's someplace I can find them again, should any digital disaster strike. You'd obviously have to compare them on a night with ideal conditions to really know. My guess so far is: not much. I'll wait a while, if indeed I ever do. -

It's been here for a while now, but I'm still not sure what to think. It hasn't done anything more for me than the 6" f/6 - yet. I wasn't expecting a world of difference, but, well, it puts the added value of a 'better' mirror in perspective. Stanley stays. -

Every scope should own one. This specimen arrived safely thanks to the care and attention of @DRT I've issued it a sleeping bag and it will be assigned to a scope in due course. Thanks Derek!

That video says it all. What a result!
