Only wish it could have lasted longer, but it was better than the zilch that I've had for the last two weeks! :(

sounds like you had a good night Gus, I had a few hours lastnight, seeing wasn't too bad, had a trip to the triple in leo then bagged a few more galaxys in virgo, then finished off with Jupiter, all in all not a bad night. hope you have more clear skys ,charl.

    2. Knighty2112

      Knighty2112

Yes, it was Charl. Amazing what just an hour or so of observing will do after what seems like an eternity of clouds! ;)

  8. Getting a second hand Skywatcher 200PDS scope next Wednesday when I go down to collect it. Does second hand equipment incurr a cloud penalty at all? Hehe! ;)

    1. xtreemchaos

      xtreemchaos

nice one Gus, you get 2 3rds cloud curse for secondhand stuff, and you can reduce it more by sleeping with one eye open the night before you get it :icon_biggrin:. your going to love the scope when you see the colour you get with newts. well done. charl.

    2. Knighty2112

      Knighty2112

Thanks Charl. Hoping to scoop up some fainter items with this scope too. Fingers crossed! :)

      Knighty2112

  12. Sky wasn't great, but still managed to see Neptune pretty well by pushing the magnification up to 214x with the Powermate. :)

    1. orion25

      orion25

Nice catch! Any Orionids out there?

    2. Knighty2112

      Knighty2112

Hi Reggie. Sadly clouded over soon after viewing Neptune alas, so unable to tell as yet!

  13. DHL managed to destroy the focuser on my new scope. Obviously been playing rugby with the damn thing. Hope it doesn't take too long for the supplier to get a new one sent out. Grrrrrr.......????

    1. xtreemchaos

      xtreemchaos

oh mate, im gutted for you, hope thay sort it out soon, darn DHL,guess the mountain was too high for them. ive often had deliverys fom them and know when there outside my house by the banging coming from there van as thay chuck stuff around, thay should get fined when stuff get broke because thay clearly dont give a dam about our goods. charl.

    2. Knighty2112

      Knighty2112

Exactly. Makes you wonder how they manage to stay in business wit all the claims against them! Sheesh!

  14. Can't wait till Monday (fingers crossed!) when my new refractor arrives. I'll be like a kid on Christmas morning! :)

  17. Grrrrr.......rain! :(

    1. RiponJas

      RiponJas

Grrr indeed. New ep's arrived and sky is pants!!

  18. Time to collimate my C8 SCT with a star test. Always hate this part!  Groan!!!! :(

    1. Knighty2112

      Knighty2112

Blah! Clouds scudded in, so stopped the star test. I did manage though to use an artificial star along the full length of the garden, which seems to have done the trick. Stars look like stars again and not flying seagulls! 😀

  19. Ok, footie starting, so sees ya all later! Come on Englandddddddd! ;)

    1. Knighty2112

      Knighty2112

5 nil, 5 nil, 5 nil! And there’s another half to play still! Hehe!

Could end up been 10 nil by the end! Hehe! ;)

  20. Nice to bag Mercury in the twilight, with Venus below it too again before they dipped below the houses nearby. :)

    1. orion25

      orion25

They make for a stunning pair in the twilight!

  21. Managed to bag a new planetary nebula last night, NGC7027, along with Neptune too, along with all the usual suspects too. Had a nice 2.5hrs under some clear sky from 11:00pm till finish at 1:30am. :)

    1. orion25

      orion25

Nice catches! Sounds like a more than satisfying "knight"!

  22. Collect a great second hand Az Goto mount on Friday from Dobbie. Can't wait to use it, so hoping that o get some clear skies for the weekend! Fingers crossed! :)

    1. Knighty2112

      Knighty2112

      To get, not o get!

  23. Grrrrr..........going to be nice and clear tonight after the footie, yet have to be up early for work in the morning. Double grrrrrrr..........????

    1. xtreemchaos

      xtreemchaos

it was cloudy here allnight and today, im sick of these darn clouds "allready", hope we get a break soon.charl.

  24. Same old; get set up to image Jupiter. Get 3 small runs done after aligning scope, and Bam! Clouds roll in to spoil play! Pity as Jupiter was showing some fine detail, even though the GRS is not on view.

  25. Tonight’s the night to try my first imaging of Jupiter with my ZWO ASI 120 mc camera. In two minds which scope to use, so may try both the C8 SCT and also the Omni 120mm ‘frac (obviously not both at the same time with the camera) ;)
