  1. And so you should be with that set. Lovely. But then again ... ?
  2. Oh my, Shane! John writes of ghosts in your case and Derek sighs at the sight of 'familiar' green and black things. A case to be cared for, then. ?
  3. Excellent post and interesting stuff, iPeace. I love to see 'accepted wisdom' being challenged and tested. After all, where would be had others not challenged the accepted view. (Take the pun, or not. ?) I look forward to reading what others may have to say on the subject.
  4. Wow, SloMoe! That's like a masterclass in 'show me your eyepiece cases' ?
  5. Excellent! The present Mrs Floater and I folded up over that! Hang on in ... and watch out for that Timebandit! He's after one of your kids! ?
  6. Oh well. Not the first time I've been upstaged ... But back on topic, and anent Derek's 'slimmer' case, we could remind ourselves that Mr Nagler (no less) suggests we should need no more than three or four eyepieces. I know, I know ... Just saying. ??
  7. And there it is: the evidence that 'to fiddle' is a prerequisite ... ???
  8. Maybe the tense is wrong there, Alan. Perhaps 'had' is more accurate? ??
  9. Surely not 'worrying', Stu? You know you love it ...! ?
  10. Thanks, but I was bearing that in mind. ? I will make no judgement on view, just check to see what's needed to achieve focus. I have two or three possible EPs (I think!) and will wait before pairing up. I'll also try the BV in different scopes just to learn all I can before committing funds. This is unusual for me - I usually go all in very quickly - so is this a sign I'm maturing? ?
  11. Thanks for that, Alan. Very helpful. I had already decided to hang fire before buying any new EP and planned to do exactly as you suggest, try the binoviewer with only one eye! I agree with you about the magnification and don't seek to push it too high: results are always disappointing. My Cemax 12mm 'lives' in the scope and only occasionally do I try something else. The 12 gives me a nice full disc, which I prefer. Binoviewing has been suggested for solar viewing by many people but I'm also aware that many just don't get on with it. So only one way to find out ... Delivery due tomorrow. ? Thanks again.
  12. Hi, from me, too, Alan. Just about to take a dip into binoviewing with the same scope setup, so may I ask what /which EPs in your pic? There's a familiar colour scheme ... ? My default is a 12mm Cemax and not sure if I should twin it with another for the binoviewer or go for TV 15mm. Any comment? Any others wish to comment, please?
  13. Lots of interesting space there. A nice 'iteration' - or even 'apparition'? ??
  14. It's unlikely you can find better than the Powermates. You may find something as good, but I would doubt that it would be better. And if you're pairing the Powermate with TeleVue eyepieces you have a harmonious match. ? Edit: But as YKSE points out Barlowing a 3.5mm EP will be over the top. ?
  15. Nice and neat, Major. As you're obviously aware, there's a lot of potentially expensive space there ... ??
  16. Ealin, I'm blown away by your obvious skills. It's not the first time that's happened to me on SGL but I sense you will quickly take your place among Loungers who are similarly gifted. Welcome. There's no doubt in my mind that you will enjoy the hobby you have hankered after. Have fun.
  17. Bonny to see, Garry ... and a well-placed resurrection/redirection of a thread. ?? Stay bright.
  18. That's a lovely case - and such a deeply technical description of the components. ??
  19. Now ain't that just the truth. ? ... And ain't that just wonderful?! ?
  20. That's the stuff! Pick yourself up and get back on it. All part of the fun and learning what works for you. I struggled with eye placement, too, but now use an eye extender. It helps a lot. Your Mrs bought you an eyepiece. What a lovely thing to do. Don't be disappointed.
