  1. Think I have gone as high as I can with this. Unless I strap it to the chimney!
  2. now live !! http://myallsky.co.uk have to wait and see what the stars look like later!
  3. Nice and snug in the pipe! Main pipe being bolted to the outside of the house. The top section that has the camera on is another 1m high!
  4. one thing i read was about fixing the screen resolution in raspi-config so that its not auto you can do that in ssh
  5. Ok so I am on MK2! I didn't like the image from the first one. Mainly the visible area but also some weird aberrations and lots of stretching the stars. So upgraded the dome to one from an Oculas much smaller and better quality. Also changed the lens to a proper 180degree one from modern astronomy. This now gives a proper view of the whole sky. Psu is a 12v and mounting the rpi, psu and USB psu inside a piece of pipe that has a slot so it will slide into the main soil pipe mounting. The psu will power the rpi and the dew heater and also has enough to power a peltier if the operating temp of the camera produces too much noise. Too wet outside to test today but hope to get some images soon.
  6. i feel the compulsion to buy one but just cant afford it at the moment these rpi bases that were printed are just so good
  7. I agree its one of the best forums everyone is so helpful and generous. wish everyone was the same
  8. great picture how would you go about finding the name of the galaxy? if there is one! its not on stellarium
  9. what do you mean when you say you have sliced it?
  10. No need for a lid its is just for mounting within another container and its not going to work hard so no need for heat sink. it does not need to be aesthetically pleasing and it wont be in direct sunlight so i don't know what would work?
  11. How much would it cost one of you lovely people to print this? cant afford to go for a printer just yet but would like this Rpi4 base so weighing up options! BOTTOM-8020_BLANK.STL
  12. cheers guys I will have a look at Fusion 360 and Freecad and see which one fries my brain the least!
  13. so whats the trend on 3D software to create simple stuff to go to a 3D printer? has to be really easy for my simple mind to work it!
  14. while waiting for parts I decided to build the web site again thanks to Thomas Jacquin for doing all the hard work. still some tweaks to do with the star map overlay etc but so far looks ok www.myallsky.co.uk no actually live data yet just a single image that was a bit messy
  15. ran the system tonight with the dome attached and dew heater connected. pretty disappointing night! you know when it all starts to go wrong and you think maybe i should just switch it off and got to bed!! took me ages to get focus and it was still not anywhere near as good without the dome lots of aberrations and weird shadows etc then the dew heater packed up, blew the fuse then house next door decided it was time to forget to switch off the floodlight! i couldn't get team viewer to run on the Rpi! anyway fixed the fuse and found the issue that blew it focused better but still not great may have to use a better dome! left it running over night now as ISS is going over at 5am so will see if it gets picked up!
  16. no need to be sorry I just read it from the Ubuntu press release
