  1. Im using an iPhone and iPad. I can connect the iPhone to the mount with the synscan app latest version. Then go to sky safari on the iPad and using the iPad address 192.168.4.2 as recommended it will connect and work perfectly with the mount. Suddenly the connection will fail and sky safari tells me it can’t make a connection to the scope. Even if I go through all the first steps again it still won’t connect. Then suddenly half an hour later it will connect for another five minutes or so. Any ideas please!?
  2. So I’ve recently got a Baader solar filter for my 100ed and managed a good look today and, just saw a nicely focussed white disc and nothing else. Am I missing something?!
  3. I’ve recently bought the Altair Ascent f7 102ed which looks almost identical, same focused and build quality just less expensive glass. However it’s had great reviews including In the press and I’m very pleased with it ( although it’s been cloudy every night since I bought it!) I did compare it with my 120 f8.3 achro in daylight focusing on distant trees against sky. The ca is very noticeable in the achro and hinders focus and clarity at high mag. In the Ed scope on that test ca is indiscernible so better than I could hope.
  4. Thanks for coming to the rescue, John! I’ll be patient and order the 16mm Nirvana. Unless you think the 7mm Nirvana (which is in stock at a couple of dealers) would be a useful addition to my armoury in which case I would order that And the16mm later.
  5. Well they don’t seem to be in stock anywhere at the moment. Any other recommendations? Would a 2” Panaview 26mm be a good buy in a similar area or 7mm Nirvana which would give me 100x or about 250x with my 2.5x Barlow. I expect that would be my maximum magnification on a good night.
  6. I’ve had the revelation for 5 years or so and I think it might have been a little more expensive then. When it first came on the market it got good reviews. Certainly for visual there is no apparent visual degradation when using it with a prime or zoom eyepiece.
  7. Thanks I’ll take your advice, both of you.
  8. I’ve a birthday coming up and wonder if I should add to my modest eyepiece collection for my new scope. It would have to be a sub £100 buy from a close relation! I presently have a 42 mm 2” Revelation, 32mm 1.25” unbranded Plossl, which is very sharp, 12 and 8mmBST Starguiders, 8-24mm Starguider zoom and Revelation Astro 2.5x Barlow. Have I covered all bases or am I missing perhaps an ultra wide or more magnification? My viewing interests are general, a bit of everything. Am I better off buying a filter or two? I only have a moon and sky pollution filter and don’t use them very much.
  9. I had one I had to return because it would not broadcast the right Wi-fi network and my phone couldn’t connect. The replacement works perfectly. I have noticed that if your scope is near the upper end of its payload then balancing is important to that will affect tracking.
  10. Well I’ve had one for years and I think it really comes into its own with a 25 or even 32mm eyepiece. Lovely wide views and quite sharp. Doesn’t need it’s useless finder scope either!
  11. New Mount arrived today with not a hint of connection issues I’m pleased to say! Pity there’s no decent manual though!
  12. More modest than some but I’m very pleased with this new setup. Altair Ascent 102ed on AZ Gti. Just waiting for the skies to clear!
  13. I was very pleased with the quick response and good communication with this company. An AZ Gti Mount I ordered was dispatched and received by me within two days. Unfortunately it was faulty (and research here and elsewhere told me it was a known fault with some units) and Ian at Altair Astro said he would have a replacement sent out immediately and the courier could collect the faulty mount at the same time as delivering the replacement. Couldn’t ask for better! However, despite Ian’s best efforts, Optical Vision, the Skywatcher distributor, seemed to have other ideas and delayed dispatching the new Mount after telling Altair Astro it had already been shipped. I think that was disappointing. In a way I can understand them not wanting to send a new unit before the faulty one was returned but given that I’d already paid and on the phone to Ian it was clear they knew this was an issue with some of their mounts Optical Vision could have provided better service. So I’m waiting to receive the new mount on Monday.
  14. Well I’m afraid my mount won’t broadcast any network but the one beginning ESP... I’ve switched off the house wi fi, driven up the road out of range of any network, nothing makes any difference.. Its going back for a replacement because I’ve spent hours messing about with it. I’m pretty cross when it’s a known issue and there is a firmware update that solves the problem which should have been installed before the mounts are sent out.
  15. Thank you I’ll try that in the morning.
  16. That could be me. I’ll try it tomorrow as I’ve just got one and my iPhone can’t see any Wi-fi network at all from the mount. thanks!
  17. I can’t! Synscan wi fi is greyed out so I can’t tap it to any effect.
  18. I’ve just switched on the new mount I received today using a transformer or the right spec. The red on light flashes but my iPhone or iPad can’t connect. When I go into settings there appears to be no Wi-fi called SynScan xxxx as there should be. Am I missing something obvious?
  19. Nice! I’ve seen the Ring Nebula though not in colour of course! Haven’t managed to see the Sombrero Galaxy but I’m hoping the goto will help. The Ascent weighs about 4kg and my camera is an Olympus Pen so weighs less than a typical full frame slr. The mount will be on a sturdier tripod than the one that is supplied as standard so I’m cautiously optimistic.
  20. Hi thanks. I’m hoping to get an AZ Gti Mount in the next couple of weeks together with a Starwave Ascent. I believe with a photo adapter I can put the mount on top of my CG4 Celestron tripod which is quite sturdy. Mainly for visual but I’d like to try some imaging as well and it might be an introduction. I have an xlt 120 refractor but I thought I’d upgrade. I’m already using the mount in AZ configuration as it avoids the awkwardness of a long refractor and eq mount.
  21. Do you think it would do short subs in AZ? I’ve heard it’s possible in theory and the stacking software might cope with the field rotation.
  22. I think the Celestron CG4 tripod is a bit more substantial than the EQ3 even though I believe the mount beads are the same - if you can source one.
