  1. Took the decision tonight that a Panaview does not provide enough AFOV and that I am fed up of the seagull shaped stars! Time for a new 24- 30mm eyepiece.

  2. Hi Damian, Hope the mirror/ telescope is going well. I've registered to come to this day. Cannot wait! John
  3. Man, that's some 60s Dr Who intro going on there! So is the edge sorted now? John
  4. Finally seen why it is called the Whirlpool Galaxy!! :D

  5. Big Scopes are worth every penny :D :D :D!! So is John Nichol! What a mirror, what a night!

Well, good two hours!!! FIrst time I tried the mirror out on DSOs and well, if M3 is an indication of what Is to come, then WOW!

  6. mmmmmmmmmm dark energy sauce *drools* But how could the matter/energy be "missing" in a sense since they are seeing effects of supposed dark matter on galaxies and objects? Could all the pressure in the universe have caused the universe to expand faster than the speed of light? It is an interesting thought though of pressure causing something such as the universe to expand. Yes, like fruit or vegetables going off and gases released causing the packaging to expand... I like it. Whether it is true or not, another matter :D
  7. It used to be the only thing in mine, but somehow I managed to build an 18" scope without giving up! Power of support! Can't wait to see it finished in all its glory one day. Maybe one day I'll bring my tiny scope up to Yorkshire
  8. Thanks for that. Always interesting to learn how things are done. Maybe one day i'll get to see someone grinding one in person! John
  9. This may seem a silly question but I don't really know much about glass and mirror making. Is there ever a point where a piece of glass becomes unusable as a mirror, or do you never take off enough material for that to happen? What effects does it have having to take further bits out of the centre or the edges? Presumably the focal length/ratio is changed? I guess what I am asking is: is it a process that can go on forever on the same bit of glass and achieve the desired result you set out to achieve? John
  10. Telescope so close to completion. Just a few little niggles to sort out! Hopefully DSOs will be seen soon.

  11. Man all these images are like staring at a Zebra's backside daily. I just hope you understand what they mean, because that is all I see when I look at them! John
  12. Man you seem to have scraps of everything just lying about!! John
  13. Yeah, but he got paid well for the privilege! John

  15. Just got to get through a wedding tomorrow then hopefully I can finish my scope Tuesday and Wednesday!

  16. I'm no expert, but I can definitely tell those lines are straighter than a few days ago! It's amazing the amount of work that goes into making a mirror. I'm glad I paid someone to do it though. John

  18. keep pushing on buddy. We'll be observing through our dream scopes in no time!

Ok cool I will have a look, thanks

  22. I have a very old 0.96" 12.5mm ortho in my collection, some Japanese thing. The thing is hilariously tiny compared to any eyepiece. Very good eyepiece though.
  23. Hurry up money, I need a big scope! And good eyepieces.

  24. So nice to see Orion up as well as Sirius. Also, how hard it can be to locate something if you're only used to seeing a constellation in one orientation!

  25. Looking at a clear night with Moon in view for hours makes me realise how little I've looked at it over the years, and how little I can identify on it.

I guess too many of us dismiss it. That includes me, I can get as far as 1) that is the moon, and, 2) Tycho.

Don't get me wrong, I love the moon once I'm looking at it. Got some good rough sketches of craters tonight and learned my way around some more... it is just getting motivated to look at the moon - I guess I am lazy and my mind tells me: seen one crater, seen them all.

Ronin thats not bad really. Now for #3) Birt & Birt A & Straight wall.

      Although #1 & 2 are really good.
