  1. Since 3 out of 4 wires were still connected to the camera PCB, I decided to stay with the short USB cable to the camera. Soldered that broken joint and connected the long USB cable to the short one. Plugged into RPi and powered up. The camera is now working again. I think I'll secure the short USB wires to the camera with hot melt glue to stop it being pulled off again.
  2. Yep, you'll love it (if you're anything like me). Well done. Welcome to the wonderful world of 3D printing 😀
  3. The new parts fitted together fine. Joined the extra USB cable to the short piece coming out of the camera, insulated all connections with heat shrink sleeving, then tested it but... camera not detected - something wrong with the wiring it seems. I'm wondering whether to use flat ribbon cable into the camera rather than soldering USB wires to the camera connections. I can't see that a few inches of unscreened wiring would be a problem.
  4. Watched the repeat as well and enjoyed that too. It was worth watching again.
  5. The lens I use is 1.55mm rather than 2.1mm FL - quite a difference. But the expensive thing is the astro camera. I think it's the camera that makes the Oculus so expensive.
  6. I have a thread on it somewhere but haven't done any anodising for years.
  7. Lens :- All Sky Lens for QHY5-II and 1/2 Inch Camera Dew Control do the same one for about the same price. Gives full 180 degree view with ASI178MC (or MM if you prefer).
  8. I wonder who had the idea of putting an alien face on the side of it 🤣
  9. Great - thank you for the info. Makes for much easier interfacing with an RPi. I have a project needing analogue input which the RPi doesn't have.
  10. It's certainly something worth considering for future projects.
  11. On checking that everything fitted together correctly, I found a couple of problems resulting in a small design change to the camera casing and the plate that surrounds the Peltier TEC and makes the bottom of the camera casing. Now reprinting these parts.
  12. Still watch on TV though when it comes on. Same with some other series and films.
  13. I think I have it on a Blu Ray box set...
  14. Just spray painted the printed parts. Seals the surfaces.
  15. I've done film terrestrial photography but not astro. Did all my developing and printing too - both monochrome and colour.
  16. The new taller dome has arrived and I've tested it for size on the test camera casing and it seems to fit nicely so I'm now printing the full production version camera casing.
  17. Awaiting the arrival of the new taller dome.
  18. Urania - where you go. Maybe I used the wrong terminology...
