  1. I have a backup battery in my observatory so power cuts are not a problem...
  2. Absolutely. Electrical failure was one of my concerns.
  3. All these posh observatories make mine look like a very rough old garden shed! ?
  4. Well, entropy always increases around me!!!
  5. After 7 years there's nothing growing under my observatory. I know because i have a small hatch in the floor to get at the sump pump that removes water that collects underneath in heavy rain.
  6. I was going to motorise my roof but I too concluded that it'd be quicker to open it by hand.
  7. Three 2200g reels of PLA 3D printer filament. Well, not postman but DHL Express courier.
  8. Ah so it's already looking like a Gina rough old shed!! ?
  9. I didn't have all that equipment when I built my observatory. And apart from a day's help with the cladding, did it all on my own. That looks like a fully fledged building site! ?
  10. I looks 3D printed to me. Should be easy enough to design.
  11. My thoughts were to make the observatory just a slightly tatty garden shed albeit with a strange roof. Goes with the tatty appearance of my property generally ?
  12. I too only have 13.8v at the pier. I keep mains cables well away from data cables.
  13. No joy with TMC2208 driver so ordered TMC2100 which are known to work silently in 3D printers.
  14. I used 11mm OSB on my warm room roof and AFAIK it's fine. It's underneath EPDM and has polystyrene foam and 6mm plywood underneath so can't say I've actually seen it since I built my observatory seven years ago but the roof still looks flat and doesn't let any wet in so I presume it's fine. I doubt it even gets damp.
  15. I get that quite a lot with things I've ordered from Amazon! Though they seem to prefer screwed up brown paper these days so maybe they've taken some notice of the plastic problem... OTOH - probably not. Next delivery will probably be a huge box with plastic air bags!
  16. Well, if you're worried and want to go for the best... hardwood floorboards!
  17. I believe they are and designed for building sites so very durable.
  18. It will get damp from underneath. I think 12mm would be adequate with sufficient support but in marine ply depending on how long you want it to last. Solid wood, as in floorboards, can't suffer from delamination and cheaper than marine ply plus the tongue and groove system allows for expansion and contraction with changes in humidity.
  19. My pier cost me just for aggregate and cement to make concrete plus threaded rods and some rebar from local builders merchants. A days hard work and some electricity for the cement mixer.
  20. Got motor unit working but the motor is very noisy so I've ordered a couple of TMC2208 driver modules (one spare or for other clock) to replace the A4988 driver to stop the noise.
  21. Yes, I was surprised by how much my door weighed. It's similar to yours except I have horizontal shiplap cladding with 6mm marine ply on the inside and polystyrene foam insulation.
  22. Well done James! A great day's work! ?
