New observatory

I recently purchased an observatory from http://www.homeobservatoryuk.com/.

Firstly, customer service – superb. Gareth (and his team) was very helpful with advice on various options.

The observatory was delivered quickly and at every stage Gareth kept me very well informed.

The observatory is very nicely finished If you want a very good observatory.

I can whole heartly reccomend them.

Now I have to spend some time in insulation, electric sokets, lighting ect....

The 1st light will be in a few weeks

Right now the inside is empty. It is under construction

The inside insulation is nearly done.

Fitting out the inside takes way longer than I had expected.

It is 3.2m on 3.2m on the outside and around 2.9m 2.9m on the inside. Enough space to be future proof for a big newton.

Good idea to plan now for the biggest scope you are likely to fit- something many people fail to allow for is the amount of operating room you need around a scope. Get a 12" Newt in there and 10' x 10' suddenly doesn't seem that roomy any more! Especially if you have to start using step ladders to reach the business end.

Really nice roof, what's the tiling system?

It is this type of roof tiles with some kind of foil under it.

On the website of home observatory uk you can find the different options for the roofs. There are many coulours and it is made of recycled plastic. Thats a good reason to build an obs

About the inside painting, any suggestions? I was thinking about ral 7005 (mouse gray).

I used some leftover from my house but if needed they can provide and place it also.

These are some pics from the outside.

The guttering on both side of the roof is really good idea. 

About the door, it opens on the outside and you can secure it with a good padlock.

The roof is locked with 2 of these mechanisms.

The frame of the roof is made of steel. Under the tiles you can see some kind of foil to make it watertight.

The roof is isolated with 10cm of pur foam panels
