Which stars - 3-star alignment?

If you are using known named stars, there is no need to use three, two-star alignment is ok (the third star is only used to identify which un-named stars you have chosen)

So something like Rigel and Regulus (assuming you are meaning evening), or Procyon and Spica (later in the evening)

For Synscan mounts a good choice shortly after it gets dark is one to the south about 40+ degrees up either Procyon or Pollux would be a good choice. Depending exactly which side of south the first one is you can go on to choose Dubhe in Ursa Major/ Regulus in Leo and/or Aldebaran/Mirfak in the west.

You basically want stars about halfway up and as far from each other as possible.
