Guiding, QHY5 or DSI 1c

I currently guide using a QHY5 and an ED80 scope however sometimes I fail to find a suitable guide star and have poor signal noises (CMOS Chip)

Would I be better changing to use a DSI 1C (CCD Chip) as there's one going cheap on Astrobuy/sell? (Or a DSI 2)

Which would be more sensitive?

I Don't know about the maths but my DSI IC never let me down with an equinoxe-66 or a 500mm f8 as guidescopes...

Interesting, I use a QHY5 and 9x50 finderscope and I've never, not found a star for guiding.

OK, I am new to the guiding malarky, but am running the same setup as the OP. I have yet to struggle to find a guidestar in my light-polluted skies.

What exposure timing are you using in your guide software?

Yep, my trusty QHY5 has never let me down yet......I always put gain to 100% and use 1 to 1.5 second exposures.

I'm with Martin....the QHY5 isn't the bees knees but it certainly does the job! 1.5 sec exposures in PHD with Al's V3 reticle overlay.

I think it might be due to guiding from within Maxim. With PHD I had less problems; I'll go back and re-try PHD.

In trying to convert to Using Maxim as a think it has a slight edge with accuracy and can be controlled in a remote obs setup.

In maxim I currently use 5 sec subs!.

This was triggered as there are a couple of DSI 1c and a DSI pro going cheap at the moment
