First time out

Recommended Posts

Got home from work tonight and lo and behold the moon was out (also a few stars). Straight upstairs, grabbed my xmas toy a Celestron Nexstar 60 STL. Straight out to the garden and set up. Took a little while but got there eventually and wow was it worth it. Even with a sodding great yellow sodium street light poking its head over the garden wall within 5 meters of the front of the scope the view was incredible. Now looking forward to Saturday night and a trip out to darkest Salisbury plain, hoping to get a bit more practice in then. :)

Hi Hussar

Well done on your first lunar experience, just remember that the moon when full is a great sight but you will see more relief and surface details as the terminator (line between light and dark), slowly creeps over the moon as it wains over the next 14 day or so. This area by the terminator will have long shadows and the craters, rills and other surface features will be spectacular and well worth getting cold feet for.

Nice to see your report let us all know how you get on in the coming new year.

Cheers

Gary

Glad you were able to get the scope out tonight, its gone all cloudy here at the moment.

That first view of the moon is one of those "WOW" moments, but just wait till you get Saturn in the eyepiece. :)

Andy.
