Skywatcher 127 Mak goto

Recommended Posts

OK, i've order the above scope with FLO and as warned so often on here the weather forcast is rain & cloud for the next seven days!

At least it gives me time to sort out a battery pack, but can any other 127 mak owners tell me what power leads come with the scope? I'm not sure what type of plug is on the end of the lead that plugs into the powertank and if i'll need some kind of adaptor to run the scope off a "maplins" powertank.

Cheers

Dean

Hi Dean!

I got the 127 myself for Xmas. It does not come with any extra power leads. The only one it has is that attached to the battery pack.

I have had one set of 8 AA's since I opened it and after possibly 4 hours intermittent use the mount is really slowing down now.

Are rechargeble AA's an option do you think?

Rechargables only produce 1.2v as opposed to 1.5v for normal batteries. The skywatcher mounts are a bit touchy as regards voltage. Once it starts to drop to about 9v the mount will slow down. With rechargables you only start with 9.6v, so as noticed you only get a couple of hours tops.

I use UNIROSS HYBRIO batteries in mine with no problems. I've been out for a couple of hours on occasion, then left them for a couple of weeks without recharging and had another decent session before having to recharge them. I haven't had a problem yet due to low voltage and I've had them for 8 months or so now. I'm guessing it must move slower due to only running on 9.6v but I can't say I noticed a significant drop in speed when I switched from dry cells.
